It's been ten
years since tire and rubber recyclers first gathered in Louisville,
KY under the auspices of the International Tire and Rubber Association
(ITRA) to exhibit tire recycling equipment, products, and services,
and launch one of the industry's leading educational workshop programs.
The nation's first
and longest operating tires-to-energy plant closed its doors in mid-January.
The Modesto Energy Limited Partnership (MELP) combusted nearly 6 million
tires annually to produce electricity for about 18,000 homes. Since
1987, the facility has disposed of over 66 million scrap tires.
Retailer's deal with American Rubber Technologies promotes recycling.
A Jacksonville company has gone retail with its Rubberstuff¨ product
line. American Rubber Technologies (ART) recently signed an agreement
with Wal-Mart to carry Rubberstuff¨ a resilient playground rubber
safety surfacing made from recycled tires. Rubberstuff¨ absorbs
impact from falls providing 300% better protection from injuries
when compared with sand, mulch, pea gravel or wood chips, according
to the company.
